Scientists looking for a COVID 19 vaccine need to work
together to fix this problem as soon as possible.
Thousands of people are dying. And many millions more are
suffering. And all of this could suddenly become more serious (as suddenly as
COVID 19 started) if there is a new mutation of the virus and we have a much
more deadly COVID 20, before we know how COVID 19 works. Thinker Yuval Harari
hinted at something like this, in his February article "The world after
the coronavirus."
We should all join forces - world leaders, the world of
science, WHO - to achieve this goal as soon as possible.
And WHO has a direct responsibility to encourage those
directly responsible for finding a vaccine: to work together to find it as soon
as possible.
As the renowned economist Stéfano Zamagni asked a few days
ago, the vaccine must be without a patent. A vaccine without a patent, with a
public formula, achieved as soon as possible, with the collaboration of all,
would be the appropriate response to the crisis. And it would be a sign that we
are maturing as a global community to face the serious challenges that this
21st century will impose on us.
If we do not want to regret worse situations we must claim: #ScientistsTogetherNow
